Children's Dentistry

What to Expect for Your Child's First Dental Exam
We highly recommend bringing your child to their first dental appointment between the ages of 1 and 2. During this visit, we'll be reviewing your child's medical and dental history, answer any questions or concerns that you have, and discuss your child's dental habits and overall oral health. Other important topics include teething, your child's bite and how their teeth will come together, any bad habits like thumb sucking, and risks of cavities and other dental damage.

Dental Cleanings and Exams
It's important for your children to take care of their teeth. Since their baby teeth are growing, they're much more vulnerable and can be easily damaged by foods and drinks. These teeth are holding spaces for their permanent teeth that will come later in life, so these areas need to be taken care of to the best of our ability. At home, it's important to help your family know how to brush and floss their teeth so they can take these skills into the future! When they're visiting our office, we can also provide helpful tips, including hygiene and safe meals, so everyone's smiles can stay healthy and strong.

Composite Fillings
When treating a cavity, our South Holland dentist removes the decayed portion of the tooth and fills it with a safe material. This service is called a filling. The most common material that we like to use is composite fillings, which are also known as tooth-colored fillings. This material closely matches the color of your teeth so it looks natural to the rest of your smile. After numbing the area, the dentist will clean the decayed area. Then, a substance is applied to help open up the pores of your teeth and create a stronger bond. Once this is complete, the filling is applied in thin layers; once it's hardened, it'll be smoothed out and polished to be comfortable for your bite.
